Sunny Days
Swimsuit season is here!!!! Project NOT Runway challenge: season 1, episode 6.
VERY interesting, indeed. I'm not sure if he won because of his design or because the male NYT employee really liked his very young model. Eeeeek.....
The designers were given a challenge to create a swimsuit look for their models to wear to a rooftop party with a NYT Page 6 columnist, Richard Johnson. The winner would be announced in an issue of the paper following the runway. Boy, was it interesting seeing what they came up with. Lots of "cheeks" out, if you catch my drift. The winner ended up being Austin with this look:
The eliminated designer ended up being Alexandra. They said she tried too hard to replicate other designers, instead of using her own creativity.
I'm over here like, "more fabric, more fabric!"
I was so excited to create a swimwear for Lea. She has such pretty olive skin that looks great against any color. I had purchased a swim top at a local thrift shop in anticipation for this episode. I really loved the colors and design of the fabric. I whipped up a sketch based on swimsuits I seen around that I really like.
I really don't love sewing with stretchy fabric, especially dancewear/swim type of fabric. I survived, none the less. I also created a fun wrap skirt for her to wear out of some scrap poppy red gauze fabric I had.
Of course, my version of the challenge was more about hitting the beach than a rooftop snazzy party. Who wants to waste a perfectly good opportunity to hit the sand and surf?
I am so enjoying this fun challenge.
