Miss Julie's Glow Up
Julie.
In my opinion, she has the most fun collection - both clothing and accessories/everything else. She is from the 1970s and lives in San Francisco. The Bay Area has my heart. My oldest daughter was born there. But I digress.
There are plenty of Julies available second-hand or you can still purchase her brand new from the store. Of course, I prefer buying used and pre-loved. I get more satisfaction when I get to put a little elbow grease in to making her shine again. If you look at the last photo, you can get a peek at what shape I got her in.The first step is wiping the doll down. Soap and water first and then a magic eraser sponge next. Be careful not to remove eyebrows, lips, or freckles. Then, tighten any loose limbs (search tutorials on YouTube). Next, wash and condition the hair, making sure to keep all water away from face (water can rust the metal eye sockets). After that (if needed), run a flat iron on its lowest setting over the hair working in small sections. The hair should still be wet/damp. If that doesn’t fix it enough, do a hot water dunk (once again, YouTube search it). That should do it!
I didn’t have to do a hot water dunk on her hair, just the flat iron method. It is so silky and shiny now! There are a lot of people who will say that all 18 inch dolls are created equal. I used to agree with them, but after owning AG dolls and fixing them up, AG hair is the BEST to work with. I did freshen up her lips with a little paint, but that’s it. I also sewed her a cute new outfit. i did use a pattern for her cute sweater (Pixie Faire - Flossie Potter, 1970s Body Suit). I think she looks fabulous.
I will share some more before and afters from other dolls I’ve fixed up. I enjoy doing it so much.
